NDC sports day challenge celebrates the return of sport Ireland campus summer camps!

The National Dairy Council (NDC) are welcoming the return of summer camps to the Sport Ireland Campus. To celebrate this year’s camps in a unique way, each participant will take part in an NDC Sports Day, encompassing traditional games such as sack/sprint/ ‘egg & spoon’ races, obstacle courses and long/high jump challenges. This comes as children around the country will have missed out on their school sports day due to the school closures in mid-March.

Aidan McDevitt, Marketing and Sales Manager with the Sport Ireland Campus said “We are thrilled to be able to run our summer camps this year and are following all practices in accordance with guidance from the Government, Sport Ireland and the health authorities. We are providing a wide range of sports and activities each week of the camps and it is lovely to see the children and teenagers back being active in a social group setting. The idea of bringing in school sports day activities to the programme has been really well-received, especially with so many children missing their school sports day this year. It is always a memorable day in the school calendar and this is a fun way to ensure they can still enjoy the traditional sports day activities in the setting of our world-class facilities.”

Caroline Gunn, Nutritionist and Sports Partnerships Manager with the NDC explains “Having a healthy, balanced diet and keeping active are such important habits to instil in children for their overall health now and into the future. We are delighted to sponsor the Sport Ireland summer camps, which encourage children and teenagers to participate in physical activity in a fun environment. These popular camps provide the ideal opportunity to educate participants on the natural goodness of dairy as part of a balanced diet, which provides an impressive list of nutrients such as calcium, protein, iodine, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin B2 and vitamin B12. Milk is also an excellent choice after sport as it naturally contains nutrients that can help address the 3 ‘R’s of post-exercise recovery: providing a natural carbohydrate to help refuel energy stores; high-quality protein to assist with muscle repair; and is a fluid with natural electrolytes to help the body rehydrate”.

The NDC and NSC Summer Camps are also encouraging families and friends to get involved in their own sports day for a chance to win a €100 voucher for Life Style Sports.
