FARMER AMBASSADOR

Tom Power

Fifth generation dairy farmer Tom Power farms with his wife and three children in Ballymullala, County Waterford. Tom won the NDC and Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards in 2016 – a proud moment for the family. In 1996, Tom attended Rockwell Agricultural College for a year, after which he went to New Zealand for a year. Tom recalls his time in New Zealand, away from home and working on a busy dairy farm, as one of the most influential years in his life.
Tom knows Irish dairy is the best in the world, he recognises that the industry needs to work hard at reducing emissions, but he thinks that – looking at the bigger, global picture – curtailing Irish dairy production would be a disaster.

Louise is a real advocate for farmers and farming – she’s heavily involved in the more political side of farming and is a strong champion for women in farming, for young farmers and for social media as the best way to connect. She loves cutting silage and she hates fencing.

Shane’s a young farmer who believes, rightly, that young people are going to be most affected by the sustainability decisions that are made today. Therefore, he says, young farmers should have a say in policy, as it affects dairying, and have some influence in how the industry goes about achieving its goals.
