What is the School Milk Scheme?

The School Milk Scheme is subsidised and provides a daily fresh portion of milk to school-going children at a very affordable price in Primary, Secondary and Montessori schools.

How does my child’s school or pre-school become involved?

Simply contact the National Dairy Council who will ask a local dairy for information about pricing and deliveries.

Why should my child drink School Milk?

School Milk is very valuable for Irish children, counting towards one of their recommended servings from the ‘milk, yogurt and cheese’ group each day.

Will the milk be fresh and chilled?

Yes. The National Dairy Council supplies participating schools with free fridges to ensure that milk is chilled.

How much milk should my child drink?

As part of a balanced diet, three daily servings from the ‘milk, yogurt and cheese’ food group are recommended for 5-8 year olds; and five daily servings are recommended for 9-18 year olds.

What other benefits are there to School Milk?

Children registered for the scheme also benefit from exclusive educational resources and rewards for their involvement.
