About the National Dairy Council
The National Dairy Council (NDC) is a farmer-funded representative body that advocates for dairy as part of an increasingly sustainably produced food system; as a key component in a healthy balanced diet; and as a sector, indispensable to Ireland’s social and economic wellbeing.
Our primary strategic objectives are to:
- Foster a positive view of dairy farming among the public to support the social license.[1]
- Celebrate the consumption of dairy, encouraging the population to meet the dietary guidelines.
The NDC is currently structured across three pillars:
- Marketing, Communications & Farm Advocacy
- Schools
- Nutrition
[1] The social license to operate (SLO) refers to the ongoing acceptance by the general public of dairy’s practices and their impact on society and environment. In Ireland, we produce significantly more dairy than the population consumes; more than 90% is for export. Protecting and growing the social license requires dairy as an industry to be seen as operating responsibly and for the greater good.
About the Marketing Function at NDC
Purpose
Marketing is the voice of the consumer at NDC. The marketing function understands consumer behaviour and attitudes. It gauges consumer attitudes to relevant issues such as health, diet, climate and animal welfare. It also tracks consumption behaviour. Marketing identifies consumer trends and seeks out stories, partnerships, events and sponsorships that will help dairy connect with consumers. It uses consumer appropriate language and develops content designed to influence behaviour and attitudes. It designs, delivers and evaluates effective campaigns that shift consumer sentiment and drive consumption. Marketing builds and maintains the NDC brands including NDC, Trademark, Quality Milk Awards and Moo Crew, and cultivates its distinctive brand assets.
Organisational Structure
The NDC team brings together colleagues across marketing, communications, schools, farm advocacy, nutrition, finance and general management. Within this group, the voice of the consumer, voice of the farmer, voice of the scientist, voice of the media and voice of the educator is heard.
